Another crucial function of bushings is noise isolation. When metal components on the chassis vibrate, they collide with each other, producing a clanging sound. Rubber bushings isolate these metal parts, transforming the collisions into minute deformations of the rubber, turning the noise from metallic clanging into a muffled, low sound, or even eliminating it completely. The quietness inside the car after closing the doors isn't due to the thickness of the doors, but rather because dozens of bushings on the chassis absorb all the metallic clanging noise.

 

The logic behind the entire rubber bushing system is very clear. The metal outer shell provides fixation, the rubber body provides cushioning and vibration isolation, and the inner metal tube allows moving parts to slide smoothly. Hard areas use hard rubber to withstand force, while soft areas use soft rubber to absorb shock. Each connection point is separated from the metal by a ring of rubber, allowing the chassis to find a balance between rigidity and comfort.
